University Alumni Awards
University alumni awards are presented by Indiana University to recognize and honor exceptional alumni who stand out as leaders. The IUAA President's Award, Distinguished Alumni Service Award, the Gertrude Rich Award, Dr. Charlie Nelms Award, Distinguished Latino Alumni Award, and the GLBTAA Distinguished Alumni Award are all included in this category.

IUAA President's Award
This award honors the IUAA's most dedicated volunteers, those who lead the way in providing opportunities for their fellow alumni and friends to stay connected with their alma mater. They help us strengthen the bonds between alumni and the university.

Each year Indiana University recognizes outstanding alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award (DASA), the highest accolade reserved solely for alumni. The awardees are leaders in their chosen fields. They also make significant contributions benefiting their community, state, nation, or university. Since the award's inception in 1953, more than 300 Indiana University alumni have been so honored. This list contains all recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

The award recognizes outstanding men and women who impact their local communities and the greater Asian/Pacific American community; exhibit excellence and achievement in their careers; and inspire future IU alumni.

This award honors the memory of the wife of Claude Rich, director of the IUAA from 1948�1968. Established in 1972, it is given each year to a woman who has exemplified the spirit of Mrs. Rich in making outstanding contributions to the IUAA.

The Dr. Charlie Nelms Alumni Award has been created in recognition of Nelms' stalwart pursuit to bridge the gaps in all areas of life for disenfranchised and underserved people. An award recipient is one who has continued to exemplify the mission of Indiana University, as demonstrated in their career tenure, or in the long-term impact of their community engagement. In short, an award recipient is dedicated to work that supports positive change in his/her workplace or community. The individual nominated must possess a track record of success and be recognized by their colleagues as a leader in their respective profession or community.

The purpose of the GLBTAA Distinguished Alumni Award is to recognize outstanding achievement by lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender (GLBTAA) alumni of Indiana University. The award is also available to individual allies or supporters of the IU LGBT community, regardless of sexual orientation.
