About Beth Cate

Fred and Beth Cate share a deep commitment to Indiana University and to expanding access to the transformative power of the arts. Fred, a Distinguished Professor at the Maurer School of Law and a leading national voice in information privacy and security, has spent decades strengthening public policy, and mentoring students across disciplines. Beth, a Clinical Associate Professor at the O’Neill School, brings her expertise in law, policy, and ethics to the classroom, preparing students to navigate some of today’s most complex challenges. Together, they are devoted supporters of IU Auditorium, where their philanthropy helps ensure that children, families, and community members can experience world‑class performances—opportunities that spark imagination, build empathy, and inspire lifelong learning. Their partnership, both in scholarship and in service, has made a meaningful impact on the university and the broader Bloomington community.
