About Jeffrey Hillis

Jeffrey Hillis has long believed in the power of education to affirm, uplift, and open doors—values shaped by his own experience as a two‑time graduate of the Kelley School of Business. A proud Hoosier with degrees in transportation and accounting, Jeff created the Jeffrey Haynes Hillis LGBTQ+ Scholarship to support IU Bloomington students who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to community. His philanthropy reflects a deep dedication to helping students feel seen, supported, and empowered to pursue their futures with confidence. Jeff also honors the legacy of his aunt, the renowned conductor Margaret E. Hillis, by establishing a memorial scholarship in collaboration with his father. Margaret, an IU alumna and trailblazing founder of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, inspired generations of musicians while breaking barriers for women in the arts. Through both his advocacy and his generosity, Jeff continues a family tradition of lifting others and ensuring that IU remains a place where all students can thrive. We are grateful for his compassion, his commitment, and the meaningful impact he makes on the Hoosier community.
