BIOGRAPHY

Eleanor L. Turk received her B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957. She then earned her M.A. from the University of Illinois in 1970, and her Ph.D. in Central European History in 1975 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Turk is a retired Professor Emerita of History from Indiana University East in Richmond. She is an expert on German history and reunification. She is also the author of The History of Germany (among many other publications), published in 1999, which is a historical account of Germany from antiquity through 1998, with special emphasis on the 20th century.

Turk is a Fulbright Scholar, and a participant in Fulbright Summer Seminar Deutsche Landeskunde, held in Bonn, Berlin, and Leipzig, Germany in 1992. Turk has been a participant in seminars on German history at the Europaisch Akademie, Berlin, Germany in 1981 and in 1985. She is also the recipient of monograph research grants from the German Federal Archives. Her book, The History of Germany, was named an "Outstanding Academic Title" by the American Library Association's Choice Magazine in 1999. Turk is also the namesake of IU East's Eleanor L. Turk International Studies Scholarship.
