BIOGRAPHY

Andrew R. Klein is the dean and Paul R. Beam Professor of Law at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at IUPUI. Klein joined IU faculty in 2000, after eight years on the faculty at Samford University's Cumberland School of Law. Before entering the academy, Klein practiced law with the Chicago firm of Sidley & Austin, specializing in products liability litigation involving pharmaceutical products. He earned his B.A. with distinction in journalism and economics from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. with distinction from Emory University School of Law, where he studied as a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow in Law and was editor-in-chief of the Emory Law Journal. Following law school, Professor Klein served for one year as a law clerk to Judge Joseph W. Hatchett of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. A member of the Illinois bar and the American Law Institute, Klein has served as reporter for the Seventh Circuit United States Court of Appeals Civil Jury Instructions Committee and is a distinguished fellow of the Indianapolis and Indiana Bar Foundations.

Professor Klein is an active scholar, having published articles in a number of leading law journals. He is also co-author of a casebook, Torts: Cases, Problems and Exercises (Anderson Publishing Co. 2003). In addition, Professor Klein is a dedicated classroom teacher who has won seven student teaching awards during his career. He was given the Black Cane Award by the student body in 2004.

Klein received the IU Bicentennial Medal in August 2019 in recognition of his distinguished service as dean of the McKinney School of Law at IUPUI.
