BIOGRAPHY

George Anderson Johnson was a devoted alumnus whose professional and personal life was dedicated to public school education. As a teacher and high school principal, he inspired young people to "study hard, think quietly, talk gently, and act frankly." Johnson was dedicated to raising the standards of the secondary schools in which he prepared students to be adequately equipped to compete with their peers in advanced studies.

Johnson was loyal to IU, sending many of his best qualified students to the university. He helped revitalize the Alumni Club in his community, and holds the record in his class of 1915 for the most descendants to graduate from IU. He believed that education was a refuge in adversity, and dedicated his retirement to helping society's failures return to group living as worthwhile citizens.
