Rhodes Scholar (1913)

BIOGRAPHY

Richard H. Simpson was one of Indiana University's Rhodes Scholars. He graduated with his AB in 1911 and was a Rhodes Scholar to Oxford. In 1919 he was 2nd lieutenant of the Ordnance Department, 79th Division. He served as associate director of the American Union in London and in 1923 was executive secretary for the British Division of the American University Union in London. In 1930 he was executive secretary of the Commonwealth Fund in London and also served as intelligence officer for the National Bank of Australia.

Early in World War I he volunteered to go to the relief of the Belgians. He was made a chevalier of the Order of Conronne by the Belgian Government. He was an officer in Belgium, France, and England, of the American Relief Commission under the direction of Herbert Hoover.
