Marvin won basketball letters in 1938, 1939 and 1940 and was captain in 1940. He was voted Most Valuable Player in 1940 NCAA tournament after scoring a team-leading 12 points as IU defeated Kansas, 60-42, for the Hoosiers' first national championship. He was first team Converse All-American 1940. Marvin is also a Z.G. Clevenger Award recipient and a member of Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
