BIOGRAPHYLawrence Tyree is a former community college CEO who retired in 2012 after spending thirty-two years leading various community colleges such as Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida, the Dallas County Community College District in Texas, Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, and Florida Keys Community College. Tyree also served as interim president of six other institutions, including Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, and Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. Additionally, he is a former professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he directed the Institute of Higher Education and the National Alliance of Community and Technical Colleges. Tyree has been named as president emeritus by Santa Fe College, Florida Keys Community College, and Independence Community College, and named professor emeritus by the University of Florida.
Tyree holds degrees from Pensacola State College, University of Florida, and Indiana University, all of which have named him as a distinguished alumnus. He is a League for Innovation in the Community College Senior Fellow and received the American Association of Community Colleges' National Leadership Award. Tyree has published many works, including a book entitled "The Leadership Dialogues: Community College Case Studies to Explore". He served as board chair of the American Association of Community Colleges and the League for Innovation in the Community College and was a member of the board of directors of the American Council on Education.
Currently, he serves as a consultant for the College Brain Trust.
