The University Medal

The University Medal is awarded for extraordinary contributions of the very highest order to Indiana University or to humanity at large. It is to be awarded only very rarely to honor truly exceptional achievements by individuals or organizations.

The medal is made of gold and depicts the university seal. It hangs from a red and white ribbon and is accompanied by a rosette. A formal parchment is also presented with it. It is awarded only by the authority and action of the Board of Trustees on the recommendation of the president of the university.
