The Lieber Memorial Associate Instructor Award was originally sponsored by the IU Foundation in 1961 and endowed in 1965 through a gift from Mrs. Herman P. Lieber to recognize young teachers who had not yet achieved faculty rank. Associate teachers are critical members of the IU community who represent the future of the professoriate.
Still in their educational journey, graduate students can relate to their students and provide a learning experience that is unique. Balancing their own rigorous studies with the demands of teaching classes is a challenge. These honorees have excelled at instructing and connecting with their students.
Awardees are chosen from nominations. Please refer to the nomination page for information on the submission process and required documentation. Lieber Memorial Associate Instructor Award recipients become Indiana University's nominee for the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools Excellence in Teaching Awards.
