Within the music industry the Grammy Awards are one of the most prestigious and well-known awards, bringing world-wide recognition. For the IU faculty and alumni who win a Grammy, that acknowledgement reverberates back to the university, supporting the long legacy of excellence in music at IU. Awardees include current and former faculty like the internationally recognized soprano Sylvia McNair and alumni like world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell.
The Grammys are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. They were first presented in 1958 and the first IU recipient was piano professor André Watts just five years later.
