The Goldwater Scholarship was created in 1989 in honor of U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater to support U.S. sophomores or juniors studying natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. These students have shown a commitment to a research career, intellectual intensity, and potential for future contributions to these fields while meeting specific academic criteria.
