Endowed through the IU Foundation, this award commemorates Sylvia E. Bowman, a respected scholar and author who gave 34 years of service to IU as a professor, academic administrator, and chancellor of the regional campus system. She was the first woman chancellor at IU.
Established in 1994, the Sylvia E. Bowman Award honors exemplary faculty who teach various aspects of American culture. Awardees have included professors of political science, law, sociology and anthropology, and music. This award recognizes the impact these teachers make in their fields, on their students, and on our society when they share their expertise on topics of importance to our country and culture.
