The Harry S. Truman Scholarship was created in 1975 as a way to support students who wanted to pursue a life in public service, including careers in government, nonprofit or advocacy sectors, and education. This living legacy continues President Truman’s dedication to education and political responsibility.
The program allows for participating schools to nominate four students for the competitive scholarship each year, with only 55 to 65 scholarships awarded. The award recipients from IU exemplified the high achievement and passion for public service criteria of the scholarship.
