Winning an Academy Award, also called an Oscar, is a dream come true for anyone in the movie business as the awards represent being the best in the industry. The first Hoosier to win an Oscar was Hoagie Carmichael, the legendary composer and musician who earned a degree from IU and began writing the classic “Stardust” at a shop just off of campus.
The Oscars are presented each year by the American Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to honor outstanding artists involved in motion picture production.
