Kristi Palmer, a proud native of Indianapolis, was raised in a family deeply committed to the spirit of giving. From a young age, she was encouraged to ‘put something in the plate’ whenever possible. Inspired by her mother’s dedication to volunteering her time, talent, and treasure, Kristi’s passion for philanthropy was nurtured early on. Her family’s strong ties to IU Indianapolis further solidified her commitment to the community.
When it came time to pursue her Master of Library and Information Science degree, Kristi chose the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at IUI, thanks to a graduate assistant program scholarship. Reflecting on her journey, Kristi says, “When you have been fortunate enough to receive, it just seems natural to give.”
After earning her Master of Library Science degree in 2003, Kristi began her career at the Indiana Public Library in downtown Indianapolis. She soon joined the IUI Library, where she has dedicated 22 years of service. Starting as an assistant librarian, Kristi’s hard work and dedication saw her rise through the ranks to become the Founding Herbert Simon Family Dean of the University Library at IUI in 2019. Her career is a testament to the positive impact of giving.
For the past two decades, Kristi has generously supported IUI, both professionally and personally. She is an active and valued member of the IUI Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering’s Alumni Board and the Department of Information and Library Science Community Board. Additionally, she serves as an Executive Board Member at the Academic Libraries of Indiana and chairs the Indiana Library Federation Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice Committee. Kristi is also involved with the Advocacy and Publications Committee for the Indiana Academic Libraries Association.
