Dr. Raghu Motaganahalli completed medical school in India at Bangalore University and his general surgical training at St. John’s Medical College. He completed a residency in Surgery at St Louis University in Missouri and his Vascular and Endovascular training at the same institution. He also did a visiting fellowship at the cardiovascular institute of Buenos Aires under the mentoring of Dr. Juan Parodi. Motaganahalli joined the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) faculty in 2009 as an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery. He was promoted to associate professor in 2015 and earned the additional honorary title of E. Dale and Susan E. Habegger Scholar in 2017.
Motaganahalli is a member of several national and international surgical and vascular societies. In recognition of his teaching commitments, he received the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award, the St. Louis University Resident teacher award, and the Indiana University Department of Surgery academic excellence award for teaching.
Throughout his professional teaching and practicing years, Motaganahalli earned an array of honors and awards internationally, including the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh besides Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received the German Surgical Society traveling scholarship through which he did a six-month visiting fellowship at the University of Dusseldorf. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Midwestern Vascular Surgery Society, and the South Asian American Vascular Surgeons.
