Michael Morrone, JD, is a Teaching Professor in the Kelley School of Business where he has taught since 1997. His primary teaching responsibilities have included intensive writing courses in the Kelley School and Indiana University's interdisciplinary Liberal Arts and Management Program.
From January 2016 through June 2025, Michael served as the Executive Director of the Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching (FACET), editor in chief of the Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the Journal of Teaching and Learning with Technology. As FACET’s director he was instrumental in the creation of teaching.iu.edu and the Teaching for Student Success Series, collaborating with faculty from diverse disciplines, schools, and campuses, with UITS, and the campus teaching centers. He led the team that co-authored Indiana University’s first edition of “Identifying Pathways for Documenting Teaching Excellence” and served on the committee that updated the pathways document. He served as editor of Quick Hits for Creativity in the Classroom (publication in 2026) and Quick Hits for Teaching with Digital Humanities (2020), and co-authored Strategic Business Writing 7e (2021).
He is committed to learner-centered practices in his teaching, pedagogical innovation, and community as the foundation for widespread teaching excellence and student success. He is a proud member of the FACET class of 2007, recipient of the Dr. Carol Hostetter Lifetime Distinguished Teaching Career Award, the Mumford Excellence in Extraordinary Teaching Awards, The Kelley School of Business Innovative Teaching Award, and other teaching awards.
Michael practiced immigration law, particularly asylum and refugee law, representing clients from over 90 countries and appearing before federal agencies and the United States Appellate Courts for the 3rd, 5th, and 7th Districts. He credits his legal practice for inspiring his love of teaching and ongoing commitment to social justice through student success.
