About William F. Harvey

Professor Harvey received the A.B. degree from the University of Missouri and the J.D. and LL.M. degrees from Georgetown University. He became a Professor at IU in 1968, Dean and Professor of Law, Indiana University Law School, 1973-79, and titled professor in 1979. He was also Professor of Law at Washburn University Law School, 1961-68. Harvey was a Law Clerk, Hon. John A. Danaher, U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Cir., 1960, and he worked for Honorable Warren E. Burger, U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Cir. during that time.

He authored or co-authored nineteen (19) volumes, and was the recipient of seven (7) awards for outstanding teaching. He co-authored articles for Law & Medicine, Journal of American Medical Association and Journal of Kansas Medical Association. He wrote articles published in The Wall Street Journal, National Review, and the American Spectator. He was a lecturer on Law and Psychiatry at the Menninger Foundation, Topeka, Kansas; a lecturer on television and its political use at the U.S. Department of Defense Information School; a lecturer at the Indianapolis Law Club and the Indiana Bar Examination. He was a member of the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarship Committee of IU, and a member of the Indianapolis Literary Club.

He wrote briefs in major cases in the United States Supreme Court, and in the Supreme Court of Indiana, and he tried major cases in the United States District Court. Professor Harvey was a Public Member, Administrative Conference of the U.S., 1982-86; a Member of the National Advisory Committee on Accreditation Standards to the U.S. Commissioner of Education, 1982; the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Legal Services Corporation, 1982; a Member of the Board of Directors, Legal Aid Society of Indianapolis; Lt. U.S. Navy, TF 77, Korea and Indochina.

In 1996, he was appointed a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governor Evan Bayh.
