About John William Brown

Dr. John W. Brown is the Harris B. Schumacker Professor Emeritus of Surgery. An accomplished, experienced surgeon, researcher and lecturer of over 243 national presentations. Dr. Brown is nationally recognized for results in pediatric heart surgery. He was Chief of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department and author of over 252 publications. He stepped down from his position in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in 2010. Dr. Brown has been on the faculty at IU for 32 years and has served as the Section Chief for 20 years. Under Dr. Brown's tenure the section has been extraordinarily successful academically and clinically, and has maintained a strong clinical and basic science research presence. Dr. Brown continues to maintain his clinical practice in pediatric and adult cardiac surgery.
