Phyllis Lewis is a dedicated volunteer who has served as president of the School of Nursing Alumni Association and a member of the IUPUI Alumni Leaders Awards Selection Committee. Phyllis represented the School of Nursing on the IU Alumni Association’s Executive Council and most recently on the Board of Managers. Phyllis has been elected to the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township School Board consecutively from 1968 through December 2020. While president of the Indiana School Board Association, Phyllis was awarded the Key to the City of Indianapolis by then mayor, William H. Hudnut, III.
Phyllis is a recipient of the Maynard K. Hine medal, the highest alumni award given on the IUPUI campus, as well as the IU Alumni Association’s President’s Award. Phyllis was recognized as one of the Top 100 Alumni Legacy Leaders as part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the School of Nursing. She is a recipient of the Indiana State Nurses Distinguished Service Award as well as the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the highest honor bestowed by the governor of Indiana. Phyllis is a proud Life Member of the IU Alumni Association. The Office of Alumni Relations is so appreciative of Phyllis’s genuine spirit of philanthropy.
