About Ryan Murphy

Ryan Murphy's "Glee" TV series landed 19 Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

Murphy started his professional career interning at the News Sentinel after his freshman year at Indiana University. According to an online biography, the experience was memorable. He was assigned to the police beat and on his first day covered a car wreck and a robbery during which the thief accidentally shot himself in the face with a shotgun.

Murphy requested, and was granted, a transfer to the features department, where he wrote fashion and trends stories the rest of the summer. He went on to intern at The Washington Post and Miami Herald before launching his full-time career in Los Angeles. He later made the jump to script-writing, then directing, then producing.

He's now considered one of the 25 most powerful people in the television industry.
