An IU Southeast alumnus, State Representative Ed Clere is serving his fourth term in the Indiana House of Representatives, having been first elected in 2008. He represents most of Floyd County, including the city of New Albany. Clere is the chairman of the House Public Health Committee. He also serves on the House Education and Public Policy committees.
Clere is a legislative member of the board of Indiana’s CHOICE program, a state-funded program that helps seniors and people with disabilities stay in their home and avoid institutional care. He is also the legislative member of the board of the Indiana School for the Deaf. He has served as a legislative member of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites Corporation and the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission.
Clere serves on the board of the Cardinal Ritter Birthplace Foundation, Indiana Landmarks, the Indiana Minority Health Coalition and the YMCA of Southern Indiana. He is a past board member of Develop New Albany (the city’s Main Street organization) and New Albany-Floyd County Habitat for Humanity. Representative Clere is co-chair of the Indiana Skills2Compete Coalition. He serves on the Floyd County Community Corrections Advisory Board, the LifeSpan Resources Advisory Council and the Indiana University Southeast (IUS) Social Sciences Advisory Board. He coaches youth soccer for Southern Indiana United. He is a 2006 graduate and member of Leadership Southern Indiana.
In 2020, Edward D. Clere was presented the Bicentennial Medal for his distinguished service to Indiana University.
