Shaker is on the faculty of IUPUI where she serves as associate dean for development and external affairs in the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts and assistant professor of philanthropic studies in the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is an adjunct professor of liberal arts and one of the few academicians who is also an active advancement officer.
Recognized locally and nationally for her career accomplishments, Shaker is well regarded within the philanthropic research and fundraising communities. Most recently, she was named the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Emerging Scholar for 2015, recognized as one of Indianapolis' leading young professionals by the Indianapolis Business Journal, and noted as an on-campus leader by the IUPUI Office for Women. As a reflection of the quality of her teaching, Shaker was selected for the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award in 2013 and 2015.
Throughout her career, she has presented numerous papers, workshops, interviews, and speeches for scholarly and practitioner audiences, published an edited book on the philanthropic nature of faculty work with Columbia University's Teachers College Press, and received prestigious awards for her writing and research from organizations like the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) Forum, the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network.
Shaker completed her Ph.D. in higher education from Indiana University, holds a master's degree in philanthropic studies from the Lilly Family School's predecessor, the Center on Philanthropy, as well as a bachelor's degree in history from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
