Hillol Bala earned his B.B.A. from the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka in 1999. He completed his M.S. in information systems and M.B.A. at Texas Tech University in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Upon graduation, he continued his education at the University of Arkansas where he earned his Ph.D. in information systems in 2008. He joined the Indiana University (IU) Kelley School of Business faculty in the Operations and Decision Technology Department in 2008. He earned the additional, honorary title of Conrad Prebys Professor in 2020.
Bala’s areas of expertise include digitalization in organizations and society; IT-enabled organizational change; IT use, adaptation, and impacts; and enterprise systems implementation. Outside of his teaching career at IU, Bala has served as the senior editor for the Journal of the Association for Information Systems since 2019. Additionally, he has formerly contributed to several academic journals and conferences.
Throughout his academic career, Bala has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He was nominated for the Trustees’ Teaching Award at the Kelley School of Business in 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2018. He also received the Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award in 2015 from the Kelley School of Business.
