Nomination Letter
The nomination letter should address:
- Overwhelming evidence of the nominee’s long career of distinguished teaching.
- References to specific teaching qualities and activities that advances their nomination for a distinguished teaching award.
Preferably, the letter is from the respective department chair, dean, or vice chancellor or provost of academic affairs.
There should be no more than 1 nomination letter and it should not exceed 2 pages.
Nominee Statement
The nominee statement should address:
- The nominee’s teaching philosophy and how it is implemented.
- How the nominee has enlarged the content or elevated the intellectual level of their courses, programs, departments, degrees, curricula, and students.
- How the nominee has engaged constructive feedback from student evaluations and peer reviews to improve teaching.
- How the nominee’s teaching activities have contributed to the intellectual growth of the students, the nominee, and the unit.
- How the nominee embraces a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences to enrich our community and drive innovation.
The nominee statement should be 5-8 pages, double-spaced.
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
The curriculum vitae should be:
- Up to date.
- Focused on teaching.
Executive Summary
The executive summary should address:
- The nominee’s most relevant and impressive teaching qualifications, qualities, and activities.
The executive summary should not exceed 1 page.
Courses Taught
The list of courses taught should address:
- Dates
- Enrollments
- Level (e.g., lower-level undergraduate, upper-level undergraduate, graduate)
- Modality of delivery (e.g., in person, hybrid, online)
Course Evaluation Summary and Reflection
The summary and reflection should address:
- An analysis of course evaluations for the last three years, and these should be comprehensive rather than selective
- How the evaluations were administered
- Qualitative feedback and other sources of information
The summary and reflection may include visualizations that show course evaluation scores over a longer period. All course evaluations should be compiled into an appendix and submitted as a separate document.
Peer/Administrative Review Portfolio
The peer/administrative review portfolio should address:
- Observations of the nominee’s classroom teaching rather than the nominee’s general reputation.
- Observations across several semesters is strongly encouraged.
Letters should be from faculty members familiar with the nominee’s work.
There should be 1-3 formal peer review letters.
Research and Public Activity Related to Teaching
This section should address:
- Any public dissemination of teaching materials and methods
- Professional presentations on pedagogy and classroom engagement within their discipline
- Research products unrelated to teaching should not be submitted
This should be an annotated list of publications and disseminated works that are specifically related to teaching. Do not include copies of the publications.
Academic Student Counseling and Mentoring
This section should address:
- The breadth of student mentoring and any unusual or particularly time- intensive activities
- Any evidence of teaching beyond the traditional classroom
Letters of Support
This section may include:
- Up to 3 letters from students
- Up to 3 letters from external sources, meaning outside of the program, department, campus, or system, based on the nominee’s work
These letters should be 1-2 pages in length.
