Nomination Letter
The nomination letter should address:
- Overwhelming evidence of the nominee’s distinguished teaching.
- The nominee’s most relevant and impressive teaching qualifications, qualities, and activities.
Preferably, the letter is from the respective department chair or dean.
There should be no more than 1 nomination letter and it should not exceed 2 pages.
Nominee Statement
The nominee statement should address:
- The nominee’s teaching philosophy and how it is implemented.
- The nominee’s purposeful pursuits to analyze their teaching.
- Specific references to self-improvement and student accomplishments in the broadest sense.
- How the nominee embraces a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences to enrich our community and drive innovation
The nominee statement should be 5-8 pages, double-spaced.
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
The curriculum vitae should be:
- Up to date.
- Focused on teaching.
Courses Taught
The list of courses taught should address:
- Dates
- Enrollments
- Level (e.g., lower-level undergraduate, upper-level undergraduate, graduate)
- Modality of delivery (e.g., in person, hybrid, online)
Course Evaluation Summary and Reflection
The summary and reflection should address:
- An analysis of course evaluations for the last three years, and these should be comprehensive rather than selective
- How the evaluations were administered
- Qualitative feedback and other sources of information
The summary and reflection may include visualizations that show course evaluation scores over a longer period. Do not include copies of the original student evaluations.
Peer/Administrative Review Portfolio
The peer/administrative review portfolio should address:
- Observations of the nominee’s classroom teaching rather than the nominee’s general reputation.
- Observations across several semesters is strongly encouraged.
There should be 1-3 formal peer review letters from faculty members familiar with the nominee’s work.
Video Recording of Teaching
The video should show:
- The nominee teaching in a classroom setting
- The classroom setting can be either traditional in-person teaching, or recorded student engagement on an online platform
The video should be a maximum of 10 minutes. Note that if the video exceeds 10 minutes, the nominee will be disqualified from consideration for this award.
In a Word or PDF document, include an active link to the file for the committee members to access during their evaluation. Please save your video as one of the following formats: .mov, mp4 (.mpeg4), .avi, .wmv, .fly, .3GP.
Research and Public Activity Related to Teaching
This section should address:
- Any public dissemination of teaching materials and methods.
- Research products unrelated to teaching should not be submitted.
This should be an annotated list of publications and disseminated works that are specifically related to teaching. Do not include copies of the publications.
Academic Student Counseling and Mentoring
This section should address:
- The breadth of student mentoring and any unusual or particularly time- intensive activities
- Any evidence of teaching beyond the traditional classroom
Letters of Support
This section may include:
- Up to 3 letters from students
- Up to 3 letters from external sources, meaning outside of the program, department, campus, or system, based on the nominee’s work
These letters should be 1-2 pages in length.
