A gracious and gregarious gentleman, R. Dewey Welch is the quintessential Indiana University alumnus. Few living alumni could match the hours he has devoted to the university, and few could match his talent for drawing financial support for its mission.
Dewey Welch is a life member of the IU Alumni Association, and has served as its vice president and president. In recognition of his outstanding support for IU, he received the CASE 1989 Ernest T. Stewart Award. Through his participation on the IU South Bend advisory board, he helped establish funds to bring speakers of national importance to that campus, and also award IUSB distinguished faculty members.
As an invaluable member of the IU Foundation board of directors, Dewey has dedicated an incredible amount of time and commitment to assist the Foundation. He served as a member of the steering committee and the campaign cabinet for The Campaign for Indiana; his wise counsel and indefatigable energy were instrumental in the success of these campaigns. From salesman to CEO, Dewey spent his entire business career with his family's company, a leading corporation in the packaging industry.
