About Susanne P. Bair

Suzanne Bair is an IU alumna and former member of the IU Board of Trustees. Bair earned her B.A. and M.A. from Indiana State University, and Doctor of Physical Education with a minor in higher education from IU Bloomington. Bair served IU as the eighth student trustee while completing her doctoral degree.

Bair's long career in education began at Attica High School in Attica, IN., where she coached basketball and volleyball and was eventually appointed the school's athletic director - the fourth female in the state to hold this position. After completion of her doctoral degree, she became associate athletic director at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) from 1991 to 1993. In 1993, she returned to Indiana University, working as associate director of development and external affairs for the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (now the IU School of Public Health). In 1995, she was promoted to director and in 2000 she held the additional position of dean until 2002. Bair also served as an assistant professor of kinesiology and adjunct faculty member at the IU Center on Philanthropy (now the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy). Bair accepted a position as vice president of development at the IU Foundation in 2002. After a brief time at as VP of development at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Vermont, Bair was appointed vice president of institutional advancement at Buffalo State and served ten years before retiring.

While in Bloomington, Bair was a member of the Bloomington Development Council, served on the board of directors for the Lutheran Campus Ministry, and was a member of the Rotary Club.

Bair received the IU Bicentennial Medal in September 2019 in recognition of her distinguished service as the eighth student trustee on the IU Board of Trustees.
