Merrill Stamper Davis was an eminent physician, community leader, patron of the arts, and a devoted alumnus of Indiana University, serving twice as a Trustee. Davis was known for advancing the cause of medical education, professionally advising in legislative action that was of prime importance in the expansion of IU's medical school and attendant facilities. Founding a clinic that also bears his name, Davis served as president of IU's Alumni Association for two terms and assisted in forming the Medical School Alumni Association, of which he also served as president.
