Dr. Hanke founded the Mohs Micrographic Surgery Unit at Indiana University School of Medicine. In 1998, he founded the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Indiana. The facility is a referral center for skin cancer, laser and cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Hanke achieved distinction as Professor of Dermatology, Pathology, and Otolaryngology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He was the first physician in the United States to earn this triple academic rank. He frequently lectures in the United States and Europe, and he has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology. He has served as President of the Indiana Division of the American Cancer Society and six national surgical specialty organizations.
In 2008 - 2009, he served as President of the American Academy of Dermatology, which is the largest association of dermatologists in the world. He is listed in "Best Doctors in America", "America's Top Doctors," and is the recipient of multiple national and international awards. He has authored or co-authored more than 400 articles and 20 published medical literature books.
