James Klaunig completed his B.S. in Biology at Ursinus College, his M.A. in Biology at Montclair State University, and his Ph.D. in Pathology/Toxicology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Klaunig is a professor emeritus of environmental and occupational health at the IU Bloomington School of Public Health. He previously served at the IU School of Medicine as professor/director of toxicology, state toxicologist and associate director of the IU Cancer Center. His laboratory has been funded by the Department of Defense, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and state and corporate agencies. His research involves understanding the effects of chemical agents on human health.
Klaunig has authored over 250 peer-reviewed papers. He taught courses on toxicology, risk assessment and pathology. He has served on and chaired review panels for the EPA, NIH, CDC, FDA and National Academy of Sciences. He is an elected fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences and the International Academy of Toxicological Pathology.
