John Finbarr (Barry) Walsh is nationally recognized as a leader in community source and enterprise application integration, as well as a pioneer in the application of technology to solve problems at Indiana University. As Associate Vice President for Enterprise Software, Walsh leads a division that balances the requirements of immediate practicality with IU's long-term strategy. To his role, he brings diverse experience in industry and higher education and skill in creating a culture of innovation and delivery of technology services through partnerships.
Previously, Walsh served IU as Director, University Information Systems (UITS), and Managing Director, Operations Division (FMS), following other significant leadership and management roles in the University's IT and financial management units. Walsh architected one of the first enterprise-wide client/server information systems in higher education, IU's Financial Information System (FIS), and implemented an award-winning enterprise-wide, 1300-user web-based decision support application (FDRS). Subsequently, Walsh created the IU Information Environment (IUIE).
More recently, Walsh led the development of the enterprise workflow engine now known as Kuali Enterprise Workflow, and initiated the open source FIS, subsequently named Kuali Financial Systems. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from University College Dublin, Ireland, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Indiana University.
