About Frank Paladino

Professor Frank V. Paladino is Director of the Goldring Marine Biology Station and Jack W. Schrey Distinguished Professor of Biology at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne. Frank Paladino is one of the worlds authorities on sea turtle biology and physiology. He was one of the principal scientists instigating the formation of Las Baulas National Park in Costa Rica, working with both local communities and government authorities to save the eastern Pacific leatherback turtle from extinction.

Dr. Paladino has been on National Geographic, NBC's "Today" show, PBS and Discovery Channel shining light on the migration and physiology of sea turtles and other large reptiles. Although Indiana does not seem the most likely place to study marine reptiles, Paladino has more than 25 years of experience leading expeditions to Costa Rica, South Africa and India to study endangered leatherback sea turtles.

Dr. Paladino has been at IPFW for 16 years and conducted research in the field of comparative vertebrate physiological ecology. He has over 40 scientific papers in reviewed professional journals on animals ranging from songbirds to elephants to fish to sea turtles. He has been conducting research on sea turtles in Costa Rica since 1988. He has a Ph.D. in Zoophysiology from Washington State University (1979) and a Master's degree in Ecology from Buffalo State University College (1976).
