IUPUI Athletics Hall of Fame - 2000

About George W. Adams

George W. Adams was the first IUPUI men's tennis player to qualify for the national tournament, which he did in both 1990 and 1991. He is also the first tennis player to be inducted into the IUPUI Athletics Hall of Fame.

In his three seasons at IUPUI, Adams was undefeated in NAIA District Singles Tournament play, finishing as the # 5 singles champion in 1987-88, and as the #1 singles champion in 1989-90 and 1990-91. He also advanced to the semi-finals or finals of District Doubles Tournament play each of those seasons. As a result of his outstanding achievements on the court, he was named NAIA All-District in 1988, 1990, and 1991.

Adams earned two degrees from Purdue University at the IUPUI campus: an Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1990, and a Bachelor of Science in MET in 1991. His GPA of 3.82 earned him the IUPUI Metro Athletic Club Academic Achievement Award that same year. In the fall of 1991, he returned to IUPUI as the Assistant Head Coach for the men's tennis team.

Employed as Manager, After Sales and Distribution, for Tetra Pak, Inc., Adams lives with his wife, Heather, in Lindenhurst, Illinois, northwest of Chicago. "IUPUI provided a great opportunity for me to compete as an athlete in tennis, complete my engineering education, and grow as a person," says Adams. "The experiences in athletics have provided a big part of who George Adams is today and has helped me develop in business and life."
