Jeffery S. Vessely has been a renaissance man for IUPUI athletics. A 1973 IUPUI alumnus and longtime physical education faculty member, his contributions to athletics have run the gamut from sweeping floors to directing intramural sports. Vessely also coached basketball and golf.
He spent 20 years leading intramural and recreational sports and from 1992-94 was director of sports services at IUPUI. Vessely coached the IUPUI men's golf team from 1974-78 and women's basketball from 1976-78 and in 1982. From 1976-78, he was director of sports information.
Now the student ombudsman at IUPUI, Vessely has been repeatedly honored for his accomplishments throughout campus. He holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from IUPUI and a master's degree in physical education and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from IU.
Vessely says, "IUPUI provided me with an excellent undergraduate experience and has given me the opportunity to give something back to the university and the community."
