Shafer (2001-05) remains one of the few IUPUI student-athletes to have participated in two NCAA Tournaments at the Division I level, helping the IUPUI men’s golf team to the postseason in 2002 and 2005. He earned First Team All Mid-Con honors in 2003 and was the leader during the best season in school history in 2004-05. That year, Shafer set a school record with a 74.33 scoring average while the Jaguars posted a school record 298.45 team scoring mark. Shafer earned medalist honors at the Cincinnati/Dayton Men’s Invitational and capped his collegiate career with a school record 66 in the NCAA Regionals.
Shafer still ranks fourth all-time in career scoring average at 75.77 while his 111.5 rounds played are third all-time. The Akron, Ind.-native is the second former men’s golf star to earn Hall of Fame honors, joining former teammate Adam Darrow.
