IUPUI Athletics Hall of Fame - 2004

About Paulette Martin

Paulette Martin played basketball for IUPUI from 1986-1990. She is one of the best all-around players to ever participate at IUPUI, leading her teams in all facets of the game. During her tenure, she led in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, assists, blocked shots and steals. She holds the school record for field goals made in a season. She is among IUPUI's leaders for best single game in points scored, field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted and steals. She also is among the leaders of single-season records for scoring average, field goals attempted, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, rebounds, rebounding average, assists, blocked shots and steals.

Despite missing all but part of one game her junior year due to an injury, her name ranks among IUPUI's career leaders in numerous categories. She has two of the top 10 single-season point totals and ranks sixth in total career points (1,325) and third in career scoring average (17.18). She ranks third in career field goals made (544), seventh in field goals attempted (1,121) and third in field-goal percentage (.485). She is also among IUPUI's career leaders in free throws made and attempted, total rebounds, rebounding average, assists, blocked shots and steals. Her 612 career rebounds make her one of only three players in school history to score at least 1,300 points and grab at least 600 rebounds in a career.

Martin helped lead IUPUI to two NAIA District championships during her four seasons. In her senior year, she was named NAIA District 22 Player of the Year and First Team All-District for the second time. During that season, she was part of a team that set school records for most wins (25), fewest losses (5) and highest winning percentage (.833) in a single season. She and her fellow seniors were members of a group that won more games (78) than any other four-year class in school history.

Martin resides in Bellevue, Washington where she works in the Admissions Department at Overlake Hospital and serves as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Shoreline Community College. She also works part-time for former Indiana Pacer Detlef Schrempf.

She says, "IUPUI brought me many opportunities, a valuable education and important friendships. They all influenced me in a positive way and helped usher me towards personal success."
