Edward Howard was the former director of Vigo County Public Library, which he joined in 1968 and served until 1981. Howard spent twenty years in the U.S. Navy before returning to Indiana in 1957 to obtain his education at IU. At IU, Howard became part of the faculty in the Division of Continuing Studies, and also directed extension services at Monroe County Public Library.
During his tenure, Vigo County Public Library received the John Cotton Dana Public Relations Award in 1969. Howard was also the editor of the Focus On Indiana Libraries from 1966 to 1970 and was named Librarian of the Year in the state in 1969. Along with his duties at VCPL, Howard was an adjunct lecturer at Indiana State University.
