About Dale A. Lewis

Dale was tennis coach from 1949-1957. Under Lewis IU went from no Big Ten wins in 12 years to 3 Big Ten titles and 2 runner-up finishes. Overall record 124 wins and 21 loses; Big Ten record 51 wins and only 11 defeats. In championship seasons of 1952, 1953, and 1954; IU twice was undefeated in league play and in 1954 went 19-0 overall. His players won 22 singles and doubles championships in Big Ten Championship tournaments. In 1984 was inducted into the International Tennis Association Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame. Graduate of Utah State and later tennis coach at the University of Miami (Fla.), was inducted into the Hurricanes Hall of Fame.
