Sid was the cross country coach from 1930-35, and in 1938, and he led IU teams to Big Ten championships in 1930, 1931 and 1932, and to national AAU championships in 1931 and 1936, when Hoosier runners placed 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Sid earned world-wide recognition in the field of research on the physiology of exercise, which in 1967 won him the Honor Award of the American College of Sports Medicine. He ran track at Mississippi State and was a member of the 1928 U.S. Olympic Team in the 1,500 meters.
