Nathaniel Sims is an undergraduate student at IU Bloomington, majoring in Linguistics and Chinese. Nate lived in Chengdu, China, for 12 years, where his parents teach English at a university. Through friendships with his public school Chinese classmates, Nate's Chinese language skills developed, and he discovered his interest in studying how languages work. He is especially interested in the unwritten languages spoken by the minority peoples of China. At IU, Nate is currently studying Chinese and Tibetan, in which he is focusing on character writing and learning to use his Chinese abilities to further study linguistics. He enjoys meeting Chinese students at IU and playing basketball or eating hot pot with friends.
