Marion Knauf is a German art historian and cultural promoter. She completed her studies in Economics at the University of Bonn in 1970 and received her M.A. in Art History at Indiana University Bloomington in 1985. In 1995, she founded the arts dealership Lys Art for French furniture from the 18th to early 19th centuries. In 1999, she received a Ph.D. from IUB with her dissertation entitled Sano di Pietro’s Madonna Panels: A Survey and Catalogue Raisonné of his Madonna and Child Pictures for Private Devotion.
Since 2002, she has dedicated her time organizing a regular art salon in Berlin with lectures on topics of Berlin art and cultural landscape. Additionally, she has also been deputy treasurer of the Kaiser Friedrich Museum Association, which supports Berlin’s museums. Marion has been a key advocator for art appreciation and recognition at Indiana University, and for this, many students will always take her as an inspiration.
In recognition of her contributions to promoting international understanding and service, Knauf was presented with the Distinguished International Service Award by Michael A. McRobbie in 2011.
