Jack Tharp served Indiana University 34 years, principally at the Kokomo campus in two senior administration roles; four years in University Relations followed by 28 years in Student Affairs. While Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management he was also Dean of Students. In 2012, Tharp was appointed to direct the new University-wide Office of Financial Literacy, reporting to Vice President & Treasurer MaryFrances McCourt. Student borrowing declined by $31 million (11%) during his leadership and the program was subsequently recognized nationally as a “model of excellence. He retired in October, 2014.
In 2020, Tharp was presented the Bicentennial Medal for his distinguished service to Indiana University.
