Mary Schutten is the associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Sutton received her B.A.in education from Calvin College with majors in physical education and mathematics, and a minor in German. She completed a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from California State University at Long Beach. She received her P.E.D., a research based doctorate, in motor control with emphases in health education and statistics, from Indiana University.
Schutten has been a faculty member at Grand Valley since 2003. Prior to being appointed associate dean, she has served on the CLAS curriculum committee from its inception, serving as its chairperson for three semesters. Active on Grand Valley State's CLAS Student Advisory Committee, Schutten is also a member of Allies & Advocates, Vet Net, and is an inclusion advocate.
