Mara Gonzalez Souto graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with bachelor degrees in Political Science (honors), French, and Psychology. She was a Hudson and Holland Distinguished Scholar.
As an undergraduate, Gonzalez Souto was Chief of Staff for Foster International Executive Board, an international affairs reporter for WIUX 99.1 Pure Student Radio, and a student tour leader for IU Residential Programs and Services. She also spearheaded the effort to revive the IU Bloomington Model United Nations program and served as President of the organization. Outside of Model U.N., Gonzalez Souto founded ImMINEnt Change, a student organization that raises awareness of the perils of unexploded land mines around the world. She has also spent time volunteering for the Community Justice and Mediation Center as a restorative justice facilitator in community mediations and cases involving criminal charges. Due to her academic and extracurricular engagement, Gonzalez Souto was selected as the IU Bloomington 2015 Student Commencement Speaker.
Gonzalez Souto is Spanish by origin, but was raised in Argentina and moved to Germany before she settled in Carmel, Indiana.
