About Robert Meadows

Robert E. Meadows received a B Arch in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, 1961-1967, and an MS Arch from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, at Columbia University in 1968. For twenty years, Bob was Principal of Robert E. Meadows, PC Architects before accepting the position of Assistant Vice President and University Architect at Indiana University in 1996. Bob served IU until his retirement in 2010.

Meadows was as passionate as he was talented in his architectural work; once a consultant wanted to bring in Minnesota limestone for a project, and Meadows insisted that any limestone used would be from Indiana, because IU was “a state institution and it makes sense to use the stone from our own state.” He monitored the ebb and flow of architectural trends to ensure that new campus additions blended seamlessly into the buildings that already existed there. As a member of the Sanshin Zen community’s Board of Directors, and Chair of the Facilities and Grounds Committee, Bob designed and facilitated the construction of Sanshin-ji in Bloomington.

In December of 2010, President Michael A. McRobbie awarded Meadows with a Distinguished Service Medal, commending his outstanding service to Indiana University and the academic community.
