Craig Klugman was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and graduated in IU with a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism and Political Science. He became a hard-copy editor at the Chicago Sun-Times after graduation, and then served as telegraph editor, news editor, city editor, and assistant managing editor for features. After leaving the Sun-Times, he taught at Northwester University's School of Journalism from 1978-79. He later became the school's director of undergraduate studies from 1979-82.
Klugman returned to Indiana and spent the next few decades serving local communities such as Fort Wayne - where he spent 33 years as editor of the Journal Gazette from 1982 until his retirement in 2015. Under his leadership at the Gazette, the paper won many state and national awards.
Klugman is a member of the IU Publications Board which chooses editors for the university's student media publications.Among his many honors is being inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 2009.
