David Kehoe is a 1992 Ph.D. graduate of the University of California Los Angeles. His research focuses several important areas. Dr. Kehoe's lab examines molecular mechanisms that control how organisms sense and respond to environmental changes, primarily focusing on cyanobacteria and oxygen producing microorganisms. This research has yielded extensive new understanding of the communication systems used by these organisms. Further, his research examines the genetic structure of these organisms, developing cutting edge molecular tools and incorporating innovative new technologies in his research. Dr. Kehoe has received numerous honors over his career, including a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Science Foundation, being elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and being named a Howard Hughes Medical Institute/National Academy of Sciences Summer Institute fellow.
